My Rowing Art

Why I make Rowing Art

I am an artist, and rowing was one of my greatest and most formative experiences, I got a lot of my values around hard work and competition from rowing, and met great people who went on to achieve extraordinary things.

I love all that goes into rowing, and I feel like a lot of the experiences of rowing go uncaptured, I want to create artwork that captures all of the small memories that rowers commonly experience together, across the world, and across time.

My Plan to Create Rowing Art

I am finally executing my plan to create a large body of artwork about rowing. I’ve been planning this for at least two years, as of September 2019, and figuring out the techniques and requirements to make it.

My Rowing Experience

When I was a freshman in high school, I thought I should try football. I had no experience, I weighed 155, and didn’t know anything about football. It was a bad match. After my freshman year, I took a summer windsurfing classes, and I saw a bunch of flyers for high-schoolers to try rowing, and I loved it! It was an even playing field, and a bunch of misfit smart kids. Over the course of three years, I went to the Head of the Charles twice, the Canadian Royal Henley, and regattas all over the upper midwest. I lived for it.
